Jim Guthrie

Composer

Jim Guthrie helped define Toronto’s musical underground in the last decade, as a solo artist, as a member of Royal City, Human Highway, Islands and as co-founder of Three Gut Records (Constantines, Cuff the Duke).  A resourceful and creative self-taught musician, Guthrie has released many albums and has been nominated for two Juno awards.  He’s also been recognized with numerous awards for his work in film and advertising.  He was responsible for the runaway hit ‘Hands In My Pocket’ which was produced by RMW Music.

He most recently contributed music to an award winning documentary series called the National Parks Project. Fifty-two of Canada’s best musicians and filmmakers were involved in documenting the beauty of Canada’s national parks.  The result is 13 short films which will premier at Hot Docs and air as a seven part TV series (narrated by Gord Downie of The Hip) on Discovery HD.

He’s currently involved with an IOS game called ‘Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP’ which he did the entire score for.  It’s been released for iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch and reached the number 2 on the iTune App charts worldwide.   The soundtrack is also available on 180g vinyl!
